Create things that excite you.

Over the past month, I've shifted my focus to creating long-form videos on YouTube, and it's led me to a genuine revelation about my creative process. (https://www.youtube.com/@Phil-Makes-Stuff)

There's something deeply satisfying about investing time and effort into content that doesn't disappear into the void after a week. Creating something with staying power feels fundamentally different from the constant churn of daily posts.

I'm worrying less about maintaining a constant posting schedule as I'm focusing more on bigger goals and meaningful projects.

Interestingly, focusing on something different has brought the joy back to making short-form content. The pressure to create consistently has lifted, replaced by a new freedom. Now, when a really exciting idea strikes me, I can get genuinely excited about it and have fun with the process.

Recently, I've been watching Formula 1 and fell in love with the super flashy hype edits. I discovered a creator named Paddy (https://www.youtube.com/@paddy.cartwright) who has an awesome YouTube channel. He posted a breakdown video explaining how he creates his F1 "kinetic" edits, and I've become completely obsessed.

I had so much fun experimenting with this new type of editing, but applying it to woodworking content instead. It's been ages since I've enjoyed making a short-form video this much.

Sometimes stepping back and focusing on something new is exactly what we need to rediscover our creative joy.

:)
